While many associate fall’s arrival with the end of the gardening season, green thumbs often rejoice at the fact that it’s the start of what we call the third gardening season!
What’s the third gardening season? It’s the perfect time to create autumn arrangements! That’s right! Despite the intensifying frost, some plants can survive and even thrive until outdoor temperatures reach -10 °C!
Because there’s nothing more disheartening than seeing empty planters in the fall, in this article we are featuring our favourite plant varieties to use to brighten them up until the snow arrives. We are also pleased to present an instructional video on how to create them!
It’s important to choose the right plants!
When creating fall arrangements, the idea is to choose plants that are minimally affected by frost. For a successful result that’s vibrant with colours and textures, we encourage you to mix flowers, plants and herbs! Here are our favourites:
- Plant varieties:
- Silver cineraria
- Decorative cabbage
- Acorous gramineous ‘Oborozuki’
- Hybrid heuchera
- Blue Harrow bullrush
- Sedum – Angelina and Voodoo
- English ivy
- Rosemary Irene
- Lemon thym
On your mark, get set, grow!
Once you have chosen your plants, all you will need to do is create your arrangements with adapted soil such as our VERANDA container mix. Using the proper mixture will strengthen your plants and help them resist the frost. View the video below for instructions on how to create your planters.
